“I was really honored to be asked,” Hiddleston said. “We all wanted to preserve the integrity of the character; I wanted to make sure we didn’t lose the parts that people loved while we were doing something new. I also hope that the fact that Loki came out as bisexual was meaningful to the people who saw it. It was a small step, and there is more to go. But it was definitely important for all of us.”
In another interview, Di Martino told the Variety site that making Loki come out as bisexual was important to the director of the series, kate herron , who “wanted that to be represented on the show”. The actor added, “I think people have been waiting for it for a long time. The comics allude to it and even Norse mythology I think. It’s been around for so long, and it was really important to her to have that on the show… I have to say how happy it makes me that people are happy to see that.”
Herron originally celebrated the moment writing on Twitter: “From the moment I joined ‘Loki’ it was very important to me, and my goal, to acknowledge that Loki was bisexual. It’s part of who he is and who I am too. I know this is a small step, but I am happy and my heart is so full to be able to say that this is now Canon.”
In a later interview with Collider, Herron expressed his hope that future MCU projects will further explore the character’s sexuality. The director said, “I don’t know the plans for the future with Loki, I’m very focused on this story,” Herron said. “But I would say part of my thinking was, well, if it’s canon and it’s acknowledged, then yeah, I hope there’s obviously more of a way to go with that aspect of the personality of him. And I hope so.”
“Loki” is available on Disney +. A second season of the show is expected to arrive in the future.
