“Peaky Blinders”: the protagonists reveal what it was like to shoot the final season

For Thomas Shelby himself, Cillian Murphy, filming season 6 was all about staying focused. “We didn’t think too much about it, I don’t think so,” Murphy tells EW. “We just wanted to do the best we could.”

If the shoot didn’t feel any different because it was ending, there were also Covid-19 protocols to deal with and a very important person missing. “It was a difficult shoot because of the protocols. It was a sad shoot because Helen wasn’t there,” Murphy says of the deceased. Helen McCrorywho died in 2021. “It was difficult for everyone, but we were lucky that we were able to film it all.”

“He felt sad,” he adds. Finn Cole, who plays Michael. “You’re finishing the stories, so he feels very moving. With that and the pandemic, he was emotional. But at the same time, there is an energy there, an energy that was created, in my opinion, by the late Helen McCrory. It is this discipline. When we were there, it was completely focused, no one was complaining. That’s something I hope to take with me to future projects.”

Although the world will live on beyond the final season, Season 6 will still offer an ending, according to Rundle. “Because everyone knew this was the last one, it was done well,” he says. “There’s a sense of purpose that everyone will want.”
