On Thursday, the daily pre-evening series will celebrate its 30th birthday – with a feature-length anniversary episode on Thursday (7:40 p.m.).
In the leading role of one of the most important “GZSZ” faces: Wolfgang Bahro as Jo Gerner, who has been there since February 1, 1993 (episode 185). The role of the 61-year-old is now a series legend.
There were many highlights in the previous 7510 episodes. When Gerhard Schröder made a guest appearance, there was a record audience. On June 22, 1998, 6.73 million people watched the 1500th episode. Other prominent “GZSZ” guests included Thomas Gottschalk, Hape Kerkeling and a band that even triggered a hype with their performance in 1994: the Dutch boy band “Caught in the Act” (“Love is Everywhere”). “GZSZ” achieved the best ratings in the history of the series on June 24, 2002 with episode 2500, 7.14 million watched.
“GZSZ” actors became singing stars. Oliver Petszokat (“Oli P.”, “Planes in the stomach”), Jeanette Biedermann and Yvonne Catterfeld celebrated chart successes.
Monumental Fund
The “GZSZ” wardrobe contains 25,800 costume pieces, including 480 pairs of shoes. There is a fair amount of wear and tear in the mask too. On the days of shooting, which usually take place between 7 a.m. and 6.45 p.m., an average of 8,000 cotton swabs and 23 kilos of powder are used there every year.
With this success story, private broadcaster RTL is not thinking about discontinuing the daily soap series.
