Actress Diane Kruger has opened up about her daughter’s name and what it means for the first time.
Diane Kruger (45) spoke publicly for the first time about her daughter’s name and its meaning. The three-year-old Nova Tennessee “got her late in life at 42, and Norman had a child when he was much younger,” explains the actress about herself and partner Norman Reedus (53), who from a previous relationship with model Helena Christensen ( 53) has son Mingus (22). “‘Nova’ in Latin means new beginnings, and a nova star is constantly changing and being reborn. And we love Tennessee and the Smoky Mountains. We love motorcycle touring there.”
Her daughter’s nicknames ranged from “Noonoo” to “Neenee,” Kruger continues, adding that her daughter was “a surprise.” “I thought that wasn’t going to happen, she came into my life when I was ready.” She was surprised that she would love her role as a mother so much. “I wanted to be a mom and I was sure I would love it, but just that desire to be there every second and not miss anything was amazing.” What she appreciates most about her everyday life as a mom is “to see the many things at my age that you have already done a thousand times with her eyes again, whether it is eating ice cream for the first time or seeing snow for the first time. She changed my world and the way I look at everything. It’s so refreshing and wonderful.”
Diane Kruger: Kids made fun of her name
Her new children’s book “A Name From the Sky” (out October 25) is also about the meaning of her own name. “Diane” was an unusual name in Germany at the time, explains Kruger. “I remember coming home crying because children made fun of my name,” says the actress, who grew up in Lower Saxony. Then her mother read her a book about the Roman goddess Diana, after whom she was named. “It really changed my life and how I see myself today,” says Kruger.
It was only in April that the 45-year-old said in an interview with “Gala” that she is passing on her German roots to her offspring by speaking German with her daughter “and she understands everything too”. The little one would only say certain words in German, “e.g. pancakes”.
Diane Kruger has been in a relationship with The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus since 2016. Their daughter was born in 2018.
