People: Heinz Strunk: Germany doesn’t have a single good comedian

Humor is certainly always a matter of taste. Writer Heinz Strunk also has his own ideas. And the Hamburger doesn’t get much out of certain jokers.

The Hamburg writer and musician Heinz Strunk (“Meat is my vegetables”) is convinced that there are hardly any really good comedians in Germany.

‘No, not a single one. They lack talent, taste, aesthetic sensitivity and of course humor. And Helge Schneider is not a comedian, »said the 59-year-old of the German Press Agency in Hamburg. Above all, the comedy cosmos was too synchronized for him. ‘I just don’t get it. But people think it’s good and Chris Tall and whatever their names are fill the arenas.”

Strunk: “They should do their stuff”

At the same time, he also sticks to the motto “Live and let live”. “They should do their stuff and I’ll do mine. I still see myself as a niche.” In addition to his writing, Strunk is also known as part of the “Studio Braun” trio and has achieved cult status. He also produces the podcast “Window on Kipp” and radio plays (“The Blue Whale”).

When it comes to humor, he himself is more of a supporter of the New Frankfurt School. “So everything that happened humorously around the “Titanic”. For me, that was the only serious counter-movement to the mainstream.” He is also a fan of silliness like that of Louis de Funès and the films “The Naked Gun”.

New series in progress

Strunk is currently producing a new series entitled “Last Exit Schinkenstraße”, which is to run on a streaming service. In his opinion, this is the best form of humour: «My entire artistic existence is a balancing act between very serious stuff and gags. And that’s high-end humor. I’ll show all the comedians how it could work.” Strunk turns 60 on May 17.
