He has acted in more than 100 films so far – now, at the age of 93, James Hong has been honored with a star on the Walk of Fame.
US actor James Hong (93) has been the oldest person to have received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame since Tuesday (May 10). According to US media reports, the 93-year-old has appeared in 469 television shows and 149 feature films. This makes him one of the most prolific actors of all time.
Actor and producer Daniel Dae Kim (53) and actress Jamie Lee Curtis (63) also attended the ceremony in Los Angeles. Curtis co-starred with Hong in his most recent film, Everything Everywhere All at Once. The sci-fi adventure premiered in March.
In front of the camera since the 50s
Hong was born in February 1929 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He initially worked as a civil engineer and was discovered for show business in 1954 when he appeared as a contestant on Groucho Marx’s (1890-1977) quiz show “You Bet Your Life”.
In 1955 he was already in the film “Treffpunkt Hongkong” alongside Hollywood star Clark Gable (1901-1960). James Hong has also appeared in four Oscar-nominated films throughout his career: All the Glory on Earth (1955), Gunboat on the Yangtze River (1966), Chinatown (1974 ) and “This Country Is My Country” (1976). He also starred in “The Incredible Journey in a Crazy Airplane” (1980), in the cult film “Blade Runner” (1982) as well as in “Big Trouble in Little China” (1986) and “Wayne’s World 2” (1993).
Hong has also appeared in numerous TV shows and series, including “Bonanza”, “Seinfeld”, “All in the Family” and “Perry Mason”. His voice has been heard in cartoons like “Kung Fu Panda” and “Mulan.” Hong lives in Los Angeles with his second wife, Susan, whom he married in 1977. The couple has one daughter, she was born in 1978.
