Foreign tourism: more than 1.4 million travelers visited Argentina

The official added that, according to data provided by tour operators, “we envision a record winter season with millions of foreign tourists in our country’s destinations”.

According to what was reported by that organization, between January 1 and April 30, 1,420,410 foreign visitors arrived in the country, generating an income of US$915 million. While, since the opening of borders on October 1, 2021, 1,791,074 visitors have entered, with an expenditure of u4s1,156 million.

In January 2022, the arrival of tourists represented only the 20% of pre-pandemic numbers. While in the last week of April that figure already rose to 72.4%. For its part, the entry of foreign tourists during April compared to March improved by 62.2%.

The main issuing market is the brazilianswhich represent more than 35% of foreign tourist income. For its part, Americans are the big surprise in the rankingranking third, with 7%, above Paraguayans and Chileans.

In second place in the ranking were the visitors Uruguayanswith admission in April 140 thousand tourists of that nationality, within the framework of what is called in that country the Tourism Week.

Looking ahead to the coming months, from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, a strong growth of receptive tourism during the winter seasonhand in hand with the snow product and Brazilian tourists.

In the breakdown of visitor income so far in 2022, it stands out that in January they arrived 248,182 tourists; in February, 254,680; in March, 349,947; and in April, 567,600. According to the origin of foreign visitors, the ranking places first Brazilfollowed by Uruguayin third place USAin fourth place Paraguay and in the fifth, Chili. And they continue, in descending order, Spain, Bolivia, France, Peru and Italy.

Minister Lammens assured that with the Pre-Trip it was consolidated “a strong recovery of domestic tourism and now the big bet is to promote receptive tourism”. And he qualified the latter as “a great generator of foreign exchange and employment throughout our territory. As we have been maintaining, tourism has become a key driver of economic recovery“.

Facing the beginning of winter, snow, extreme sports and ecological tourism became the main products to offer in the international market given that, according to officials and businessmen from the sector consulted by Télam, they are looking for recover the flow of arrivals of foreign tourists to the levels that existed before the pandemic.

In this framework, the company Aerolineas Argentinas announced that it will implement more direct flights between Patagonian and Brazilian citiesas well as interprovincial frequencies. While other airlines began to offer connections with Argentine tourist centers.

Among the latest measures to increase the arrival of foreign tourists, Lammens announced -during the opening of Meet Up Argentina, the benchmark event for the meetings industry in the country and the region- the formation of a specific fund to provide “support and incentives” to that sector. “A kind of Pre-Trip for meeting tourism, an incentive for those who go looking for events abroad”he underlined.

Along the same lines, the Minister of the Interior, Eduardo “Wado” de Pedrotogether with Lammens, announced the initiative “Digital Nomads”a new type of visa that includes a program of benefits to attract foreigners and generate positive economic impact on foreign exchange earnings.

According to official estimates, there are more than 35 million “digital nomads” who travel from country to country while continuing to work remotely, in an age range between 20 and 40 years oldmost of them with a university degree and consume more than the rest of the tourists who come to the country.

Those actions are added to the series of initiatives carried out by the National Institute for Tourism Promotion (Inprotur), with the collaboration of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, to attract digital nomads to the country. For example, the Visit Argentina cardframed in the program “Argentine Treasures”which will allow foreign tourists visiting the country to obtain points that can be exchanged for gastronomic or recreational experiences.

In the same sense, they will develop promotional events and public relations in cities with the potential to capture this segment, such as New York, London and Paris. At the same time, Aerolineas Argentinas will join the initiative with special rates for these types of tourists.
