Over time, bacteria, germs or, in the worst case, mold, form in the fluff filter, the drum or even in the hoses or drawer for detergent. Then only a thorough cleaning of the machine helps – but that is by no means a reason to resort to chemicals. To clean the detergent drawer, for example, it is advisable to soak the drawer in vinegar. However, the miracle weapon is too aggressive to clean other parts of the machine with it. The situation is different with citric acid. The fruit acid not only provides a fresh scent, but also decalcifies the machine. Another helper for cleaning is baking soda or baking powder. A few grams in the laundry drum and in the detergent compartment reliably remove bacteria and the bad smells associated with them. Important: The wash cycle for machine cleaning must be at least 60 degrees hot. Dishwasher tabs can also help get rid of bad smells in the washing machine. The tabs fight against the film that has formed in the machine.
Even if it is recommended to use low temperatures to save energy, it is advisable to wash the laundry regularly at temperatures above 60 degrees to kill bacteria in the machine.
