The Depp-Heard trial began on April 11 and is expected to continue for a few more weeks. Depp is suing Heard for $50 million defamation after she alluded to her alleged abusive relationship in an opinion piece written for The Washington Post.
Many celebrities have weighed in on the trial over the past month, including radio host Howard Stern. Stern criticized Depp for “overreacting” while on the stand testifying against what he heard, also mentioning Depp’s strange accent.
“First of all, his difficulty speaking English is fantastic … and the accent,” Stern said. “Johnny Depp was born in Kentucky. Does that sound like a guy from Kentucky?
Shortly after, the comedian Bill Burr has come forward to publicly support Depp and urged the actor’s enemies to apologize if Heard ends up losing the libel case. Burr said: “From what I’ve seen, the guy is trashing. And the good thing about this is if he actually exposes this woman for lying. I wonder if all these people who, you know, accepted his lies about him, if they’re going to apologize in some way.”
Burr noted that people have “publicly trashed” Depp, saying “it would be nice if they publicly apologized and said, ‘Maybe next time we won’t jump to conclusions.'”
