Just after 5:00 p.m. Juanse entered the Golden Hall of the Buenos Aires Legislature to applause and cheers from an audience made up of his inner circle, which included his mother, Eva Clara Ponce de León, followers and friends, such as the historic Nito Mestre, and also the Minister of Buenos Aires culture, Enrique Avogadro.
“These distinctions are not what I seek in life, but I feel very honored. Culture is work, and culture is all we know how to do. If God gives me a little more, I will continue doing it”, said the artist at the end of his speech, an act prior to receiving the award from Avogadro.
Before, the minister himself had started the day with a brief speech in which he praised the figure of Gutiérrez. In this regard, he noted that “paying tribute to Juanse is paying tribute to the rock of our city”, since “he is one of the most talented rock people in this city”. “His songs are in biography clouds. If there is someone who has rock, it is Juanse. Rock is more alive than ever and he is an absolute exponent of our rock,” concluded the City official.
Then, he gave the floor to Del Gaiso, ideologue of the initiative. During his speech -also brief-, the legislator highlighted the spiritual level of Juanse, who has become a fervent Catholic for more than a decade. “Today’s Juanse is an authority of light,” he commented, adding that the musician “has a lot to give both artistically and on a human and spiritual level.”
Before the honoree himself spoke, his close friend and bassist of the Ratones Paranoicos, Pablo Memi, addressed those present and highlighted the love he feels for his bandmate and also for his family. By way of closing, Juanse offered a mini recital in the company of his current band. Together they played “La Nave”, “Mr Jones”, -a Sui Generis classic- with Nito Mestre as guest, and “Ruta 66”, before an audience that, standing up and applauding, broke with the solemnity of the imposing Hipólito Yrigoyen Hall. of the Buenos Aires Legislature.

Thus, from that little boy from Devoto who exchanged Rolling Stones and New York Dolls records to this man distinguished for his four decades at the service of music, Juanse claims to be a complex artist in his simplicity, owner of an important part of the national songbook. Not in vain Pappo, García and Spinetta, the holy trinity of national rock, knew how to ponder him as one more among them.
On June 3, Juanse will celebrate his 60th birthday with a recital at Luna Park with the Mustang Cowboys. The show, in which the musician will review the high points of his career, promises to have the presence of heavyweights from the local scene and other surprises.
