A German also belongs to “The Suicide Squad”. But who is actually the hyperactive Flula Borg, who is celebrated as a star in the USA?
With “The Suicide Squad” by James Gunn (55), the weird DC suicide squad can be seen again in the cinema since this Thursday (August 5th). In order to make the flopped first attempt of 2016 forgotten as much as possible, Gunn of the film studio Warner Bros. was largely given the freedom to choose his new warriors. With the exception of a few returning stars from the original, such as Margot Robbie (31, Harley Quinn) or Joel Kinnaman (41, Rick Flag), there are a multitude of brand new characters to marvel at in the new flick.
One of these newcomers is Gunter Braun alias Javelin, who with a thick German accent, blonde mane and spear ensures law and disorder. Behind the film character is a certain Flula Borg (39), who in addition to his acting activities has long made a name for himself in the USA as a producer of web videos, comedian and DJ. Although he saw the light of day in the Franconian town of Erlangen, Borg is an almost blank slate in this country. Time for that to change.
Everyone loves the “German Weirdo Dude”
The fact that Flula Borg (which, by the way, is not a stage name) is particularly popular in the USA, is largely due to the content of his YouTube videos and comedy routines. In a humorous way, he likes to tutor the Americans in German cultural assets or translate particularly absurd idioms and proverbs.
As a hyperactive guest with constant eye contact and a fanny pack, he paid late-night veteran Conan O’Brien (58) visits at regular intervals. With the laughter of the studio audience, he initiated him into the traditional cuisine (the slaughterplate aka “slaughterplate”).
The music suits him too
Borg also delivers music to its more than 800,000 YouTube subscribers – thanks to a rock-solid early musical education in Germany, no problem for the Swiss franc. In his “Auto-Tunes” format, he recorded live covers of famous songs as a one-man band and was already singing in a charming, weird way – Franconia among themselves.
Borg has already been able to demonstrate all of his talents together in the dream factory. In the musical comedy “Pitch Perfect 2” he led the German a cappella band Das Sound Machine. He has also worked in series such as “Curb Your Enthusiasm” or has launched his own independent film in the form of “Buddymoon” as a producer, screenwriter and actor. Thanks to his distinctive pronunciation, he is also a popular voice actor for animated films.
