A current and angry Van Morrison

At 77, legendary Northern Irish rocker Van Morrison is busier than ever. After the formidable “Latest Record Project, Vol 1” and the soundtrack of the film “Belfast” (which is the one that should have won the Oscar, and strangely is not yet available as an album), both from last year, now Morrison returns to the sources from the cover, which quotes the science fiction classic “Invasion Of The Body Snatchers” by Don Siegel -his first band was called “Them” after the famous film of giant radioactive ants also from the 50s- although more than paranoia McCarthyist, now the anguish and anger has to do with the horrible last two years with their deaths, overflowing hospitals and confinements. Just as angry as when he was one of the brilliant figures of the “British Invasion” of the 60s and all soul and rhythm & blues, for once in his career the author of “Astral Weeks” does not sing about frustrated love, although logically blues of loneliness cover not only the disease itself, but also the anger against governments, and the lyrics are a faithful reflection of what a good part of the people of almost the whole world think about politicians, but the good thing about “ What It’s Gonna Take?” is that it is not an album of lamentations but of pure energetic catharsis. And both in his voice and in the arrangements, the Irish maestro is in top form.
