SuperNature, Ricky Gervais’ special for Netflix, receives criticism for his jokes about trans people

In an interview with Stephen Colbert in late night last week to promote the special, Gervais defended his decision to joke about “taboo” topics, saying he wants to take “smart” audiences to a place they haven’t been before. “I think people get offended when they confuse the subject of a joke with the real point, and smart people know that you can deal with anything, particularly when it comes to something like irony,” he told Colbert.
