They are going into a difficult election campaign before the federal and state elections. Greens co-boss Habeck speaks of “hard work”. Above all, the result from Saxony-Anhalt should be considered.
Green co-leader Robert Habeck sees tough election campaigns for his party in the federal elections and the planned state elections in Thuringia.
“And you have to be honest: Saxony-Anhalt, the result from a few weeks ago shows that this state election campaign will also be a tough one, that nothing can be taken for granted and that achieving green success in Thuringia means hard work,” said Habeck in one Video message at a state delegate conference of the Thuringian Greens in Weimar.
Before the state elections in Saxony-Anhalt, the Greens had in some cases been in double digits. In the election on June 6, they just barely made it into the state parliament with a result of 5.9 percent. The Greens had a similar experience in Thuringia in 2019. At that time, too, they were initially in the double-digit range and then only reached 5.2 percent in the election in October 2019. They just barely made the jump over the five percent hurdle.
The state election in Thuringia will also be shaped by the “forces” of the federal election, said Habeck. “And the forces are called renewal, making the country fit for the future, getting out of sterile polarities, from stupid opposites to a new political force or management of the status quo, possibly a return to the past.”
