Kate Moss and Johnny Depp were one of the most famous couples of the 90s – now Moss is to testify in Depp’s trial against Amber Heard.
In the defamation trial between Johnny Depp (58) and his ex-wife Amber Heard (36), according to several media reports, Depp’s ex-girlfriend Kate Moss (48) is to testify on Wednesday. It’s about an alleged incident in the nineties during her relationship with the Hollywood star.
Heard previously claimed on the witness stand that she heard Johnny Depp allegedly pushed his ex down a flight of stairs at the time. According to media reports, when Heard said the name Kate Moss, it was clear to see how happy Johnny Depp and his lawyers were. Apparently they are hoping for a statement in Depp’s favor from Moss. Moss is scheduled to testify via video conference on Wednesday.
Depp and Moss: It couples of the nineties
Johnny Depp and Kate Moss were together from 1994 to 1998. The then 20-year-old was introduced to the then 31-year-old by writer George Wayne at New York’s Cafe Tabac. Wayne recalled, “When she walked into Tabac, I immediately took her hand and led her to Johnny’s table in the middle of the restaurant. ‘Johnny, this is Kate – Kate, this is Johnny.'”
Both were among the biggest stars of the present at the time. Kate Moss adorned more magazine covers than any other model, Depp had made a name for himself with films like “Edward Scissorhands” or “Gilbert Grape – Somewhere in Iowa”.
In 2012, Moss revealed of her time with Depp: “There’s nobody who’s ever really been able to take care of me. Johnny did for a while.” She would have trusted him, Moss continued. “And that’s what I missed when I left. I’ve really lost the standard of who to trust. Nightmare. Years and years of crying. Ah, the tears!”
Arrest after incident in the hotel
However, the relationship between the two did not go smoothly. Depp was arrested in 1994 after allegedly vandalizing a hotel room in a fit of rage. Moss is said to have been present as well. She never claimed that he was violent towards her. His ex-girlfriends Winona Ryder (50) and Vanessa Paradis (49) have already made statements in court. Both told the court that Depp had never been violent towards them.
After the lost defamation lawsuit against the newspaper “The Sun” in Great Britain in 2020, Depp’s US trial against his ex-wife Heard started in April. Depp is suing her for $50 million over an article she published in the Washington Post that spoke of domestic violence. She, in turn, is filing a $100 million counterclaim, alleging that he slandered her by calling her a liar.
Judge Penney Azcarate has scheduled closing arguments for Friday. Then the jury must decide.
