British authorities are demanding the return of Kevin Spacey from the USA. There is a criminal complaint against the actor in England.
British authorities confirm the return of Kevin Spacey (62) from the USA. In Great Britain, criminal charges were brought against the actor in four cases on suspicion of sexual assault, as it became known last week. Spacey, who has always denied all charges against him, cannot be formally charged until he returns to the UK.
An insider told the Guardian the report said Britain will seek the US actor’s extradition unless he decides to come back voluntarily. Extradition experts said the police in the US could arrest Spacey on behalf of the British authorities. However, delivery could take many months.
That’s what the lawsuit is about
The criminal complaint against the actor was filed by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), as can be read on the official website of the law enforcement agency. Rosemary Ainslie, chief of the CPS’ Special Crime Division, is quoted as saying: “The CPS has authorized criminal charges against Kevin Spacey, 62, in four counts of sexual assault against three men.”
Three of these incidents were said to have taken place in London in 2005 and 2008, and one in Gloucestershire in 2013. “He was also charged with forcing an individual to engage in penetrative sexual activity without their consent. The charges came after reviewing evidence the Metropolitan Police had gathered in their investigation.”
However, it is very important, the press release continued, that “this is an ongoing case against Mr. Spacey and that he has the right to a fair trial.” It is therefore essential to avoid prejudice against the actor.
Allegations since 2017
Spacey was Artistic Director of the Old Vic Theater in London from 2004 to 2015. Numerous men had accused the actor of sexual assault from 2017 onwards in the course of the #MeToo debate. Netflix then canceled the “House of Cards” star’s contract and he was cut from the box office hit “All the Money in the World” (2017) and replaced by Christopher Plummer (1929-2021).
Spacey has been sued several times in his US homeland, but so far he has avoided a court case there. According to a recent statement, the makers of his new film, “Peter Five Eight”, are behind the Oscar winner, despite the criminal complaint in Great Britain.
Spacey wants to revive his career with the film. The strip, in which he plays a murderous stalker, was reportedly bought by a production company in Cannes. The thriller has already been shot and a first trailer has already been released.
