Hannes Jaenicke has been a vegetarian for many years. Now he tells why it would be good to eat less meat.
TV star Hannes Jaenicke has called for people to eat less meat in view of the looming grain crisis as a result of the Ukraine war.
“It would be good for everything, for the climate, for Ukraine, for African countries that depend on grain imports,” said the 62-year-old on Monday on ZDF’s “Morgenmagazin”. About a third of the total agricultural land on earth would be used for animal feed.
He himself has been a vegetarian for 40 years, Jaenicke said. It would be too much to ask that everyone immediately go vegan or vegetarian. “But the return to the Sunday roast would be a huge step forward,” said Jaenicke.
With the documentary “In action for the pig”, which will be shown on ZDF on Tuesday (May 31) at 10:15 p.m., the actor wants to draw attention to the suffering of millions of pigs. The film shows how Germany has become the largest pork producer in Europe. And the torment that intensive fattening can mean for the animals.
