Queen Elizabeth II’s 70th Jubilee will be celebrated over four days from June 2nd to 5th, 2022. The British court has never seen such a spectacle. Preparations are in full swing.
Prince William is already busy rehearsing for the royal parade on horseback, but there’s much more to the four-day celebrations. From the traditional “Trooping the Color” parade, to a church service, balcony performances at Buckingham Palace and a mega party on Saturday, everything is included.
Thursday 02 June, the “Trooping the Color” Birthday Parade
At 10.00am UK time (Germany 11.00am) the annual Trooping the Color parade starts at Buckingham Palace, leads across The Mall down to Horse Guards Square. Around 200 horses, 400 musicians and 1400 soldiers are running. The whole thing takes almost 2.5 hours. At the end of the event there will be a flight of 70 Royal Air Force aircraft and helicopters. Of course, the members of the royal family are standing on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. Royal experts expect that the Queen will also show up on the balcony for the occasion. Those who shouldn’t come onto the balcony are Prince Andrew and Prince Harry and their families, because they are no longer working royals.
RTL broadcasts live from London. To get you in the mood, it starts at 10 a.m. with a documentary about the royal family, and at 11 a.m. it continues with a special on the “Trooping the Color” parade.
For the first time, beacons will be lit in all 54 Commonwealth member states, with the first expected to be lit in Tonga and Samoa and the last in Belize
The main bonfire will be lit by a member of the Royal Family in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace on Thursday evening. The royal family is scheduled to gather at 9:25 p.m. for the lighting of the first bonfire. A beacon will also be positioned over the central drawbridge at the famous Fortress at the Tower of London, as well as at many other points in London.

All royal members are expected to attend the service at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, including Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan. It is not yet clear whether they will bring their children with them.

Saturday 4th June is day time horse racing on the Epsom Downs in Surrey
So far, the Queen’s participation is expected here. The Queen has been restricted in her mobility for months and is therefore unlikely to be able to take part in all the celebrations. The horse race is one of the most famous in England and there are usually a lot of celebrities here.
The “Platinum Party” takes place at Buckingham Palace on Saturday evening
Members of the Royal Family will arrive at 7:40pm for the Platinum Party. Princes Charles and William will pay tribute to the Queen, who will be watching it on TV at home in Windsor. Stars from various fields such as film and sport are set to perform at the event including Sir David Attenborough, Emma Raducanu, David Beckham, Stephen Fry, Dame Julie Andrews, the Royal Ballet and British former Paralympic swimmer Ellie Simmonds. Sir Elton John has prepared a special performance to perform his song ‘Space Man’ alongside Eurovision song contestant Sam Ryder, who achieved a remarkable UK second place finish in Italy.
Sir Elton John said: “Her Majesty continues to be such an incredible inspiration to so many around the world and I was absolutely delighted to receive an invitation to perform on such a momentous and historic occasion.” Sir Rod Stewart is also looking forward to the event: “Queen Elizabeth has rendered incredible service to the United Kingdom over the past 70 years. I am delighted to be able to celebrate her platinum anniversary with her.”
On Sunday, June 5th, the whole event gets closer to the people with a big parade through London
There will be lots of music, food stalls and a bus parade through the British capital. A line-up of 150 stars from the showbiz world are expected at the grand finale, the People’s Parade, on Sunday. Each decade in which the Queen reigned will be themed on different buses. Fun Fact: Large corgi dolls are also said to be part of the show. Corgis are the Queen’s favorite dog breed.
If you want to get in the mood beforehand: On the night of June 1st to 2nd, the TV station ZDF will be showing a long night to mark the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s throne.
