Mónica Antonópulos told this newspaper: “When the movie came out I was a girl and I discovered it when I was a teenager. At the time I found it captivating considering my romantic view of love. It was a proposal about a chance encounter anywhere in the world. Then I saw the second one and I liked the proposal of seeing the same bigger actors and the transformation of that love over time. My taste was already conditioned by other films and other linked cinema with a deeper look”.
The work conceived by Verdoia uses aspects of those films to show a couple in a public space, where the protagonists are observed in their reunion. The viewer is offered a journey through different spaces of the Recoleta Cultural Center that aim to arrive at an area of intimacy, which goes from the public to the private. The plot revolves around Ángela and Teo, who haven’t seen each other for twenty years. A few hours after returning to Italy, the country where she has lived ever since, Ángela attends a retrospective that has Teo at the center of the scene. With the hours counted, farewell and meeting configure the circumstance on which both wonder about new opportunities.
“I’m a fan of link stories,” continues Antonópulos. “Of the problems of couples, of the stages in all bonds, as well as of the word. Showing something from behind the scenes is always attractive, I don’t know if it’s because of my profession or if it’s something that the public generally likes.”
The proposal seeks an interaction with the public and reach an area in which the spectator becomes the protagonist and the actors become spectators. In this regard, Antonópulos concluded: “They are non-rigid essays. Being inside and outside, although it is something that exists in our work, here it is intended to involve, interact and see what proposal the viewer brings. We aim to be open to the modification that this brings us. It is a process of permanent investigation and exploration”.
There will be eight shows at the Recoleta Cultural Center starting today at 7 and 8 p.m., and will continue tomorrow, Thursday and Friday with free admission and limited capacity. The team is completed with a script by Pablo Bardauil, original music by Ian Shifres and live musicians: Moira Morgulis on accordion and Bruno Leichman on guitar.
