Ministry gives in: Relaxation also in nursing homes

Today the Ministry of Health is to issue the ordinance with which numerous corona restrictions will fall from July 1st. Contrary to the original plans, relaxation for old people’s and nursing homes will also be provided, the Ministry of Health confirmed at the weekend.

Specifically, there will then no longer be an FFP2 mask requirement in the homes, a simple mouth and nose protection should be sufficient. A second relief concerns the visit restrictions, which are also to largely fall from July 1 in homes and hospitals.

In the middle of last week, representatives of the ARGE retirement and nursing homes had vehemently called for easing in an interview with the OÖNachrichten, after the ministry’s initial plans for these facilities were not provided. The mood in the homes was therefore down, it was said.

The seniors ‘interest groups reacted all the more satisfied yesterday: Seniors’ Association President Ingrid Korosec (VP) welcomes the end of the visitor limits. “This is an important signal that we have fought for a long time.”

Further demands

In a next step, Korosec is now calling for the resumption of social activities in the homes to be facilitated and for the residents of different residential groups to come together. Peter Kostelka from the SPÖ’s Pensioners’ Association has already set his sights on a further relaxation: He demands that the mask requirement in homes be completely eliminated, parallel to the steps planned for mid-July in public transport and in retail.

For the time being, however, easing will come into effect from July 1st: Among other things, you can do without masks where the “3G rule” applies, for example in gastronomy, tourism or at cultural and sporting events. In public transport, shops and museums (where the 3G rule does not apply), conventional mouth and nose protection is sufficient instead of an FFP2 mask.

From July 1st, all events with seating or standing space can take place without upper audience limits and capacity restrictions. For events there is an obligation to advertise from 100 people and from 500 people a license is required.

In the private sector, all contact and distance rules should fall on July 1st.
