The group presented the theme aboard a ship called “Queen Elizabeth”, which sailed down the River Thames while the musicians played alongside a crew of irreverent punks who dedicated themselves to getting drunk and yelling expletives against the monarchy.
Returning to land, the entire crew, including Rotten, Jones, Vicious and Cook, were arrested. Also involved in the event were manager Malcolm McLaren and Virgin Records label owner Richard Branson.
These days, on the 45th anniversary, the group’s label reissued God Save the Queen.
Meanwhile, “Pistol” will premiere in June, a directed series created by Craig Pearce and directed by Danny Boyle, which reviews the history of the group during its first three and chaotic years of life. It is based on the book “Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol” by guitarist Steve Jones.
