The celebrations for the Queen’s jubilee will begin on Thursday and German fans can also be there on TV.
In Britain it will be the party of the year – if not the decade: the Queen’s 70th jubilee. Numerous parades, parties, street festivals, parades and other events are taking place in Great Britain from 2nd to 5th June in her honour. German Royal fans can also celebrate on the television or find out more about the Queen and her life in numerous documentaries.
Thursday: Military parade
The celebrations start on Thursday with the military parade “Trooping the Colour” – 3sat will broadcast the flag parade of the Royal Guard live from 10:15 a.m. Also in the first there is on 2.6. From 11:35am, a 2 hour+ special “In Honor of the Queen” will broadcast the celebrations live from Parade Ground in central London. The documentary “Elizabeth II – Private, like never before” runs parallel on RTL from 10:00 a.m., while from 11:00 a.m. the “Exclusive Special” reports on “A life for the crown – the Queen’s anniversary”.
Friday: Church service and numerous documentaries
RTL will also provide information on Friday from 10:00 a.m. with the documentary “Elizabeth & Margaret: Trapped between Love and Duty”. It is about the Queen’s relationship with her rebellious sister, Princess Margaret (1930-2002). Starting at 12:10 p.m., ZDF will broadcast the jubilee service from St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. Immediately afterwards, from 1:30 p.m., the documentary “The Queen and the Power of Images” will be shown. Royal fans can end the day from 8:15 p.m. on WDR with a documentary from 2015: “The Visit of the Century – The Queen in Germany” is dedicated to the media event in 1965, when Queen Elisabeth visited Germany as a 39-year-old.
Saturday: The big party
On Saturday, Queen fans should take their place in front of the TV from 1:50 p.m. RTL shows the documentary “Scandals and Affairs: The British Royals” part 1 and 2 in a row. From 4:30 p.m., the first shows the portrait “7 Questions for the Queen”, which, with respect and a wink, provides “a theoretical look into the Queen’s private life”.
However, the big one is only broadcast by the BBC and not on German television. However, it could be worth looking for the live streams on BBC One, via BBC iPlayer or on BBC Radio 2: The concert series will be opened by the band Queen with Adam Lambert as singer, and stars such as Craig David, Sir Elton Joh, Andrea Bocelli, Alicia Keys or Hans Zimmer in honor of the Queen. The spectacle ends with Diana Ross making her first UK appearance in 15 years. The party takes place on three interconnected stages right in front of Buckingham Palace and the Queen Victoria Memorial. The stage design and the light show should also be spectacular – among other things, the palace will be illuminated extensively with projections.
Sunday: documentaries and party highlights
On Sunday, from 2:10 p.m., Arte will show the report “Royal Couples” and one hour later the documentary “The Queen and Her Premiers”, which examines the Queen’s relationships with her twelve prime ministers and two prime ministers. It continues on ZDF from 6:00 p.m. with the documentary “Elizabeth II – Her Life for the Crown”. From 7:15 p.m., ZDF will also show the highlights of the celebrations from the day before.
