Tens of thousands of people celebrated the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s throne in London. The four-day celebrations began with the “Trooping the Color” military parade, attended by several senior members of the royal family.
In addition to the Queen, the children of Prince William and his wife Kate were the secret stars of the day. The three little royals sat in a carriage with their mother and Duchess Camilla, which took them to Buckingham Palace. As they drove, George, Charlotte, and Louis waved eagerly.
Four-year-old Louis in particular almost stole the show from his great-grandmother – including on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, where part of the family presented themselves. Louis grimaced and covered his ears as RAF planes thundered across the sky. Smiling, the Queen leaned down to her great-grandson and chatted with him.
Visually, Louis was also an eye-catcher: in a sailor suit, he was reminiscent of his father William’s appearance at the 1985 military parade. His older brother Prince George, on the other hand, wore a suit and tie, and his sister Charlotte a light blue dress.
The royal state of emergency prevails in the United Kingdom until Sunday. The Queen thanked her countrymen in advance for the celebration. “I know that many beautiful memories will be created on these festive occasions,” it said in a message.
