Four buildings for 30 million euros and 300 additional employees: These figures are another stage in the success story of KTM Fahrrad in Mattighofen. The meanwhile largest bicycle manufacturer in Austria wants to meet the high demand and is increasing production: “Demand continues to grow. That is why we are facing the next major stage of further development. We are investing more than ever before, here in Mattighofen and Schalchen in Upper Austria,” says Johanna Urkauf, managing director and daughter of the owner Carol Urkauf-Chen.
Two construction projects are being carried out in Mattighofen: a hall for production material and a state-of-the-art paint shop with organic paints and painting robots. Two more logistics halls are being built in the neighboring municipality of Schalchen, one for complete bikes and one for bike accessories. In the past two years, investments have already been made in the construction of two halls in Schalchen. The investment should not only contribute to growth, but also make production more sustainable. The company increased its workforce from 420 to 500 during the Corona crisis. The upward trend continues: 300 new employees will be hired over the next few months to expand production and logistics capacities.
KTM Fahrrad sold 350,000 bikes this season (September to July), 230,000 of which were e-bikes. As reported, there were problems with assembly and delivery due to a shortage of materials. A total of 460,000 bikes were sold for the new season. (mahu)
