It’s been almost exactly 1000 days since the last chord sounded across the Meierhofwiese. Since August 10, 2019, since the completely sold-out performance of Seiler & Speer, the iconic concert area in the shadow of Burg Clam has been in a deep sleep due to the corona. But soon it will finally be loud again! On July 1st, the Italian superstar Zucchero will open this year’s OÖN concert summer. “It’s time for the comeback! We’re really looking forward to it, as is our zest for action,” says event organizer Michael Ehrenbrandtner.
After the Pentecost holidays, the preparations for the concert series will enter the intensive phase. For four weeks, up to 100 employees are busy building the giant stage, which is around 30 meters long and weighs 30 tons. There are also 100 square meters of video screens. The sound system has 50,000 watts, and a maximum volume of 94 decibels is permitted on the site. Ehrenbrandtner: “After a three-year break, we’re practically starting from scratch. It’s like cleaning up an empty house.”
9000 visitors on the area
Up to 9,000 visitors are allowed on the 20,000 square meter concert area. An excellent and varied line-up awaits you this year, which has the right treat for every musical taste, from Pizzera & Jaus to Parov Stelar and Nick Cave. Personally, the Clam boss is particularly looking forward to seeing “old friends” like Zucchero, Uriah Heep or the guys from Seiler & Speer again: “These acts are almost part of the inventory. It’s going to be like a casual family reunion this year.”
Planning for 2023 is already in full swing. Ehrenbrandtner doesn’t want to reveal anything yet. Only: “Johnny Depp has a little more time now, doesn’t he?”
