Jamie Oliver and his wife Jools have already suffered five miscarriages. The couple, who have five children together, are now considering artificial insemination – so that Jools could have baby number six at the age of 46.
Jools Oliver, wife of famous British TV chef Jamie Oliver, is considering artificial insemination after several miscarriages. The 46-year-old reported this in a podcast of the charity organization “Saying Goodbye”, which advocates more support after miscarriages.
Jools Oliver has already experienced five miscarriages, the last one during the last lockdown. The experiences were sometimes dramatic. She describes how she almost died with the second if she had not been taken to the hospital immediately because she lost so much blood. She is traumatized by it to this day and suffers from flashbacks. Nevertheless, the desire for another child is great. “Once you’ve had these miscarriages, you always think that this baby is meant to be born and that you have to keep trying,” says Oliver. That’s why she thought about artificial insemination. “That seems like the right option at my age.” However, she is not sure if her husband Jamie is also for it. “I don’t want to force it, I’m so lucky.”
Jools Oliver and Jamie Oliver already have five children
Jools and Jamie Oliver already have five children together, aged 19 to five. The eldest daughter Poppy has just moved out of home to study, that makes it worse. “I see that a room is becoming free and I think that must be a sign,” said Oliver. She is aware that the desire for a sixth child is viewed by many as selfish.
However, she wants to point out that miscarriages are still a taboo. “Because I had five, I know that a lot has to change for younger women who have to go through this,” says the mother. Midwives should offer follow-up care similar to those after a birth. This is already the case in Germany and the health insurance companies cover the costs.
