In a podcast, Hollywood director Quentin Tarantino told how much he had an argument with his mother in childhood and why he is still not generous towards her to this day.
This story is well known: in 1955 Elvis gave his mother a pink Cadillac as a present at the door. That his mother didn’t even have a driver’s license didn’t matter – the gesture counted. And it showed that he owed his mom a lot and wanted her to share in his success. Quentin Tarantino’s family is very different. As the screenwriter and director said in a podcast, he vowed early on that he would never give his mother any money if he were to become successful. And all because of a nasty comment she dropped when Tarantino was twelve years old.
Even then, Tarantino was writing stories and scripts, but did not perform well in school. His mother didn’t like that at all. The decisive sentence was then said during a lecture. “Oh, and your little writing career is now damned over!”, Tarantino’s mother is said to have shouted – while marking the word “writing career” with quotation marks in the air.
Quentin Tarantino carries on his mother’s argument to this day
She meant that he shouldn’t write during school hours, explains the “Pulp Fiction” director. Nevertheless, the remark stuck with him. “When she said that to me so sarcastically, I thought: Ok, lady. When I’m a successful writer, you won’t see a cent of it. There won’t be a house for you. No vacation. No Elvis Cadillac for Mommy . You don’t get anything for saying that, “recalls Tarantino. The way you talk to children would have consequences. “There are consequences if you talk to them sarcastically about what means something to them.”
And the 58-year-old stuck to his oath. He once helped her with a tax bill. “But no house. No Cadillac,” said Tarantino. The Oscar winner has an estimated net worth of $ 120 million. His mother was 16 when he was born and was abandoned by his father before he was born.
