In any case, the bottom line was a net profit of 112.6 million euros, after a loss of 29.4 million euros had to be borne in the first six months of the first pandemic year 2020.

With a record turnover of 1.87 billion euros, not only the previous year (1.64 billion euros), but also the pre-crisis level of 1.74 billion euros was exceeded, the company announced on Wednesday. Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA LFL) were EUR 308.4 million, up 21 percent on the previous year (EUR 254.1 million), but were also above the first half of 2019 (EUR 295.7 million). Euro).

Wienerberger “emerged stronger from the Covid 19 pandemic,” emphasized CEO Heimo Scheuch. “We surpassed the success of our record year 2019 and continued the positive trends of recent years.”

The building materials producer has now also raised its annual targets: in 2021, an adjusted EBITDA of between EUR 620 and 640 million is expected, instead of the previously expected EUR 600 to 620 million. “Based on the strong performance in the first half of the year, we are looking positively into the second half of the year and are increasing our guidance,” said the CEO.

However, the management assumes “that the high sales volumes of the first half of the year, especially in the infrastructure and renovation markets, will be more moderate in the second half of the year”. Overall, the predominantly positive development of the three business units should continue.

“In addition, the added value from our announced acquisitions and the success of our ongoing transformation into a full-range provider of smart system solutions, especially in energy and water management, will ensure continuous earnings growth in the second half of the year,” expects Scheuch.

Between January and June, earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) improved from 19.7 to 170.6 million euros. The earnings per share (EPS) turned from minus 26 cents to plus 1 euro. The workforce was increased by 5 percent – from 16,360 to 17,180 employees worldwide.
