Animal love is very important at Zarrella: Jana Ina and Giovanni Zarrella are committed to animal shelters that were destroyed by floods.
Jana Ina (44) and Giovanni Zarrella (43) have been campaigning for animal welfare for a long time. For the celebrity couple, it is an affair of the heart to help the animal shelters that have been destroyed by the floods. Thanks to the Fressnapf initiative “Animal Committed” and the “Goldener Fressnapf” campaign, in which Jana Ina is also a member of the jury, you can make a generous donation to the Anna sanctuary. Together they handed over a donation check for 23,100 euros – and rounded up by 6,900 euros to 30,000 euros. “That makes me very happy,” said the mother of two happily in an interview and, together with her husband Giovanni, expresses their condolences to all the victims of the flood disaster.
The flood disaster also hit the animal shelters hard. What are the consequences of the institutions?
Jana Ina Zarrella: Today we visit the Anna sanctuary in Rheinbach, where the flood caused incredible damage a few weeks ago. I was shocked to see how the water of this and many other institutions washed away existence. So I am all the more pleased that we can now, together with the Fressnapf “Animal Committed” initiative, provide the animal facilities with some financial help. This is a real affair of the heart for Giovanni and me! We are handing over 23,100 euros to the Anna sanctuary today. The money comes from an emergency aid campaign by Fressnapf, for which numerous committed Fressnapf customers have donated. Giovanni and I rounded the amount up to 30,000 euros. In total, we can financially support nine animal institutions. That makes me very happy and I thank all donors from the bottom of my heart.
Were you or your loved ones also affected by the flood disaster?
Jana Ina Zarrella: No, thank God not! However, like almost everyone in this circle, we know someone who has been hard hit. For many it will be months before they can go home and others no longer even have a home. Just horrible, it makes us very sad!
You have been committed to animals for many years. You adopted your dog Cici yourself from an animal shelter in May 2020. How much is he upsetting your family life?
Giovanni Zarrella: Cici is a special dog – she is incredibly clever, learns quickly and has a lot of love to give. She immediately feels when things are not going well in the Zarrella house and comes to cuddle. She likes to play and has made us complete again. In such a severe pandemic time, Cici is definitely the most beautiful thing that could have happened to us.
The past few months in the pandemic have been stressful for many families. How have you fared?
Giovanni Zarrella: It was a big challenge for us too, but over time we developed a good routine and tried to make the best of it. We spent a lot of time together, slept a lot and ate a lot. (laughs)
Many marriages were also put to the test during Corona, how do you as a couple get through the pandemic?
Jana Ina Zarrella: As always, we gave ourselves space and respected each other. We spent a lot of time together, which we really love to do, but everyone did what they wanted so that everyone also had time for themselves, that worked out well.
Who did homeschooling for your children at home?
Jana Ina Zarrella: I took on a lot of it, but when my nerves were on the edge, Dad had to step in. I can learn better with the children and explain things to them, but Giovanni has a lot more patience than me.
