The ORF offers a large forum for the European Football Championship 2022 in England in July. The public broadcaster shows all 31 games of the event live, 27 of them on ORF 1. From 6th to 31st July 90 hours of live coverage await football fans. On game days of the Austrian national team, this lasts six hours and usually extends from 5:30 p.m. to 11:15 p.m. in the group phase.
ORF sports director Hans Peter Trost also sees this media appreciation of women’s football “as a socio-political sign. It’s about gender equality, and it’s about a public broadcaster having the task of closing the gap to men’s football in terms of the framework conditions.” ÖFB team boss Irene Fuhrmann thanked the decision-makers for this “sign of appreciation”. “It’s very important for us to be visible. Unfortunately, it’s still not a given that girls play football,” she said.
Opening game with Austria
The first big highlight from the Austrian point of view is the opening game between England and Austria in Manchester’s “Old Trafford” stadium on July 6th at 8:15 p.m.
The encounters with Northern Ireland (July 11, 5.50 p.m.) and Norway (July 15, 8.45 p.m.) will follow later. Anna-Theresa Lallitsch, Michael Roscher, Toni Oberndorfer and Erwin Hujecek act as commentators for the games, all of which are offered with live subtitles and audio commentary for blind and visually impaired people. Record team player Nina Burger, Nadine Prohaska and Elisabeth Tieber are there as experts.
The EM studios will be moderated by Kristina Inhof, Karoline Rath-Zobernig, Alina Zellhofer and Roland Hönig.
