Beyoncé gave private insights into her life and her ideas about life at 40 – and revealed that new music is on the way.
Beyoncé will be 40 years old on September 4th. She now spoke in one about the various stages in her career and how her attitude to many things has changed over time.
“I had to be twice as good”
Beyoncé was already on stage at the age of seven in singing and dance competitions – and was often the only black girl: “I realized that I had to sing and dance twice as well as the others. I had to have stage presence, wit and charm, if I wanted to win. ” As a teenager, she would have fully concentrated on her future success band Destiny’s Child – while her classmates would not even have known that she could sing because she hardly talked.
Nevertheless, she had big goals: “I wanted to break with the stereotypes of the black superstar that said they had to be addicted to drugs or alcohol or the absurd misunderstanding that black women are angry.” But she put herself under a lot of pressure: “I knew I was given these incredible opportunities and I felt like I only had one try.”
In her 20s – the breakthrough was achieved – she concentrated on commercial success, founded her own company and filled the important positions with strong women. It wasn’t until she was in her 30s that her priorities changed: “In my 30s, it was about starting a family and giving my life more weight than my career.” During this time she would also have dealt a lot with trauma inheritance and healing. “It was about going deeper.”
The next decade is all about celebration, joy and love
Meanwhile, Beyoncé has learned a lot: “I’ve spent so many years improving myself and everything I’ve done that I’m at a point where I no longer have to compete with myself.”
Her 40s are now heading in a completely different direction: For the next decade, Beyoncé has set out to explore herself, travel without work and spend time with her three children Blue Ivy Carter (9), Rumi Carter (4) and Sir Carter (4) and her husband Jay-Z (51). “I want this next decade to be about celebration, joy and the giving and taking of love. I want to give back all the love I have to the people who love me.”
New album is coming
But she also announced to her fans that she had been working on a new album in the studio for a year and a half. “Yes, the music is coming!” They say. There is “nothing better than the love, passion and healing that I feel in the recording studio,” said the musician. It feels just as exciting after 31 years as it did when she was nine years old.
