Regardless of whether vaccinated or (still) unvaccinated: The Delta variant can cause concern. Portugal and Russia are virus variant areas from midnight. What else is in store for us? And is our summer vacation in danger?
Only yesterday there was new worrying news about the Delta variant, this time from Russia: In Moscow, according to official figures, more people died of Covid-19 within 24 hours than ever before since the beginning of the pandemic. And in Portugal’s capital, Lisbon, more than two thirds of all Covid 19 cases are now due to the more contagious Delta variant.
The end of the summer vacation?
From midnight onwards, Portugal and Russia will also be among the so-called virus variant areas; Great Britain has been on the Robert Koch Institute’s list for some time. Anyone who is not a German citizen or who lives here permanently is only allowed to enter Germany from these countries under very specific conditions. And for all immigrants, including holidaymakers, there is an obligation to quarantine for two weeks without exception. Free testing is no longer possible. A travel company therefore brought back around 270 German tourists from Portugal yesterday.
Podcast “important today”
Sure, opinionated, on the 12: “important today” is not just a news podcast. We set topics and initiate debates – with poise and sometimes uncomfortably. This is what host Michel Abdollahi and his team speak out for stern– and RTL reporters: inside with the most exciting people from politics, society and entertainment. They let all voices have their say, the quiet and the loud. Anyone who hears “important today” starts the day informed and can have a sound say.
Everything is reminiscent of the reports from last year: vacations canceled because of the virus – and tourists who are transported back to Germany on special flights. Is this the beginning of the fourth wave in Europe? Or are we still facing a halfway carefree summer? In the “Today important” podcast, Michel Abdollahi talks to virologist Dr. Martin Stürmer, who runs his own microbiology laboratory in Frankfurt.
