Michael Fassbender celebrates his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans this weekend. A dream that comes true for the Hollywood star.
On June 11th and 12th the 24-hour race of Le Mans will take place again. This time a real Hollywood star will be driving: Michael Fassbender (45). The German-Irish actor, known from films like “Inglourious Basterds” or “Shame”, is also a passionate racing driver. By taking part in what is now the 90th edition of the legendary long-distance race, he has fulfilled a dream.
Fassbender will start for Proton Comeptition – in a Porsche 911 RSR. “It has always been my dream to drive in the 24 Hours of Le Mans,” said Fassbender recently in a press release from the automobile manufacturer. He doesn’t just want to “contest” the race weekend, but really “be competitive”.
His dream briefly turned into a nightmare
In qualifying, Fassbender crashed and the race had to be stopped. Luckily he didn’t seem to hurt himself too much. : “I’ve been consistent – consistently slow, but at least consistent.”
He has been preparing for the race for three years. “Well, the dream turned into a nightmare yesterday when I rammed the barrier,” Fassbender continued. But it feels great to be able to participate. It is a great honor and privilege for him. The crash from the previous day was “unfortunate”, but the mechanics worked all night and got the car back into shape. He can rely on an “incredible team”. Fortunately, he can now continue to realize his dream, “because that could have been the end of the story yesterday”.
Fans can follow Fassbender’s path to the 24-hour race on YouTube.
