The manager’s idea
His manager at the time, Michael Conrad, had advised him to do so. Drews quotes him as saying, “It’s not much, but you can still use three years. Many look to the age.” Accordingly, in his biography it was stated that he was not born in 1945, but in 1948.
He maintained this lie in order not to discredit his manager, the musician reported. “I couldn’t help but stay with it. I couldn’t go in everywhere and say: ‘By the way, my date of birth is wrong'”, he justified himself.
The old age lie ultimately led to the separation of the professional team. The singer still has fond memories of the collaboration. In retrospect, Drews said he should have stayed with Conrad.
