The new “Tom & Jerry” film starts in cinemas on August 12th. The popular and hostile duo of Jerry the mouse and Tom the tomcat is reawakened in the film by director Tim Story (51): Jerry moves into a posh New York hotel – one day before a big wedding takes place there. The wedding planner has to get rid of the uninvited mouse and hires Tom for this task. This starts the game of cat and mouse and threatens to destroy the entire wedding.
The special thing: Tom and Jerry come back as the well-known cartoon characters in a real-life film. The adventure features Chloë Grace Moretz (24), Michael Peña (45), Rob Delaney (44), Colin Jost (39) and Ken Jeong (52).
Annett Louisan (44) contributed the classic “Thank you for the flowers” by Udo Jürgens (1934-2014) for the film music. In an interview with the news agency spot on news, the singer tells about going to the cinema with her daughter, how she remembers Udo Jürgens, what influence the corona pandemic had on her family and when her fans can look forward to a new album from her.
They are part of the soundtrack for the new “Tom & Jerry” film. Have you been a fan of the series as a child?
Annett Louisan: Yes, I remember being annoyed with Tom.
What do you associate with the two cartoon characters?
Louisan: Childhood and Udo Jürgens.
Were you allowed to see the new film in advance? If so, what do you like best?
Louisan: Yes, I was able to see it with my daughter in a small Warner cinema in Hamburg, in the middle of lockdown. We had the cinema to ourselves. She liked the movie, but at the same time she tried every theater seat. I liked the movie too. I liked the influencer story because it also takes a critical look at a current topic and I found it very delightful that all of the animals were drawn and all of the people were real. And one more point. The film is set in New York City and I love NYC!
What do you think of the fact that the film is a mixture of animation and normal real film?
Louisan: It’s a great idea that gives the film a very special character.
Was it an honor for you to sing Udo Jürgens’ song “Thank you for the flowers”?
Louisan: Of course! Udo Jürgens’ songs have become classics and timeless and have almost become folk songs. I love his repertoire!
Among other things, you worked with Udo Jürgens on a ZDF show for his 80th birthday. What is the best memory you have of him?
Louisan: We sat next to each other at dinner afterwards and I was thrilled by his emphatic, charming manner. He was a great artist who was curious, alert, open and interested into old age. He recognized me, that doesn’t happen too often, that’s why it will be remembered and he will not only be forgotten because of his music, but also because of his personality.
The corona pandemic is still restricting cultural events. How are you now with the situation?
Louisan: It has already changed me and my family. My view of life and my job. What I clearly felt, perhaps more than ever before, how happy the stage makes me and how much I miss it.
How is the pandemic affecting your family life?
Louisan: Caring for a three-year-old child without a daycare center, friends and grandparents, playgrounds has been tough for months. But this time together was also a gift. I try to look at things positively. Anything else makes no sense and is idle.
When can your fans look forward to a new album? Can you already reveal something about it?
Louisan: I’m working hard on it. Maybe there will be a little foretaste this year. But I think for sure in the next.
