These are works carried out by Edgardo Gimenez, emblematic figure of pop art; the architect and designer Richard White and the artist from Mar del Plata Daniel Basso in conjunction with the architecture studio Florida studio. The exhibition is curated by Daniel Basso and Estudio Florida.
“After going up a floor, as if searching for a precious object that is somewhat hidden, the public accesses the Bombonera exhibition. Indeed, there is the sensation of entering a box of chocolates lined in blue velvet. More than luxury , fun pop”, says the room text written by the specialist María Sánchez.
The crossing between art and design is evident in these pieces that are on the border between art and furniture design, but which are presented as art to consume, with a strong pop imprint, they pointed out from the gallery.
In this pop game, the “sample chocolates” are everyday objects such as chairs, armchairs, tables and lamps with creative designs, hyper-present in a consumer society alluded to by the pop-art movement immortalized by the American Andy Warhol.
A series of furniture designed by Ricardo Blanco is exhibited, one of the most significant achievements in the career of this outstanding architect and industrial designer, who died in 2017. Obsessed with chairs, one of his greatest objects of passion, study and pride , which turned to multiple designs made of different materials, the author of the book “Sillopathy” edited by Editorial Argentina, established the analysis of this object as a “cult object”, especially for designers.
The friendly chair “Friendly” will also be seen, a prototype originally made by Blanco, for a series designed to form a row of seats, which could be rows of seats in a theater, and pieces such as a centerpiece made in 1983, as part of an exhibition proposed for the Giesso Space.
Edgardo Giménez exhibits in the exhibition the “Acrylic lamp with a neon ring”, a piece made in 1968, which was sold at Fuera de Caja, Romero Brest’s design shop, and the Cabinet-type piece of furniture, made in 1969, made from volumes in decreasing order and crowned with acrylic rays, frequently used by the artist.
Meanwhile, the work of Daniel Basso has a strong link with various disciplines such as architecture, graphic design, interior design and even confectionery, which are integrated into works of a personal and unmistakable character where features of the consumer culture. In this case, together with the Estudio Florida architecture studio, they seek to recreate the popular French macaroon, a type of traditional biscuit from French and Italian cuisine, turning it in this case into a creative piece of seating furniture.
“Bombonera invites you to a brief playful experience, because the associations inevitably lead to sensory pleasure -flavor, color, comfort-, and to the delight of a light mood -relaxed and humorous ingenuity-. Perhaps in there we, visitors, are also a chocolate “, adds María Sánchez in her text.
The exhibition “Bombonera” opens on Wednesday, June 15 at 5:00 p.m. (by invitation) at the Calvaresi Contemporary gallerylocated at Defensa 1136 (San Telmo), where the public can visit it from Thursday, June 16 to September 11, from Tuesday to Friday from 12 to 6 p.m. and on Sundays from 11 to 5 p.m.
