The lynx is back in our forests

“The lynx, with its brush ears and stubby tail, is a charismatic wild animal that was extinct throughout Central Europe for a long time,” says Lucas Ende, species protection coordinator at the Austrian Nature Conservation Union. Thanks to continuous efforts, the hunter has been at home again in Austria’s forests for some time.

The Austrian Nature Conservation Union and the Federal Forests are involved in joint projects for the lynx. In addition to awareness-raising measures and training, active participation in lynx monitoring in federal forest areas is also planned. With these and other measures, the two cooperation partners want to make their contribution to ensuring that the lynx is once again an undisputed and secure part of the local animal world. According to Lucas Ende, it enriches the forest ecosystem immensely: “Not only does it increase biodiversity, but the lynx also provides carrion for species such as beetles, common ravens and vultures that depend on it.”
