Ex-Puhdys drummer Klaus Scharfschwerdt is dead. The musician of the legendary Ostrock band died on Friday at the age of 68 as a result of his cancer, as his family knows on Scharfschwerdt’s Facebook profile. From 1979, Scharfschwert was the drummer for the popular GDR rock band “Die Puhdys”, where he replaced Gunther Wosylus, and was an integral part of the group until it broke up a few years ago. In the eighties he was even honored as the best drummer in East Germany. He also composed some of the band’s songs and also performed as a singer. Also at the last official concert of the Puhdys in Berlin in early 2016, Scharfschwertt was on stage with his colleagues. We shared this hope and were firmly convinced that he could do it! Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be like that.”
The statement was also published on the homepage of Scharfschwerdt’s last band “Neuland”. With his rock combo Neuland, Scharfschwerdt released the debut album “Made in Europe” in 2019 and also performed live. Klaus Scharfschwert died in Berlin on Friday. The funeral service should take place in the immediate family circle.
