A few weeks ago, actress Doreen Dietel (47) was diagnosed with black skin cancer. The very next day she had to have a melanoma removed from her breast. Now she wants to make others aware of the skin disease. Because: More than 20,000 people in Germany are affected by a so-called malignant melanoma on the skin every year. The causes of skin cancer can vary, but the most important risk factor is UV radiation.
Doreen Dietel knows that too. In an interview with the magazine “Bunte”, the 47-year-old blames herself for her illness: “I’ve had a solarium flat rate since I was 19,” she admits. “I was a fair-skinned guy and turned a tan, which I thought was beautiful.” On every vacation she “lay in the sun from morning to night”.
Doreen Dietel has to have 30 birthmarks removed
Today the actress is paying the price for her “years” of sun addiction: she still has about 30 conspicuous birthmarks to be removed. “Only when I see my doctor’s number on my cell phone do I get palpitations,” says Dietel. Chemotherapy or radiation is sometimes not necessary. “But that’s not certain yet. And I have to stay out of the sun for the rest of my life and definitely see a dermatologist every three months.”
