Ramsay Hunt Syndrome: Justin Bieber gives update
“He knows the darkest part of me that I wouldn’t want anyone to know and he always takes me into his loving arms,” Bieber said. “This perspective has given me peace during this terrible storm I’m facing. I know this storm will pass, but in the meantime Jesus is with me.”
Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, which Bieber suffers from, is a rare condition that affects nerves in the ear and face. It is triggered by one of over 200 herpes viruses. It is named after the American neurologist Ramsay Hunt, who first described the disease in 1907. Ramsay Hunt syndrome occurs as a rare complication of shingles, the so-called “herpes zoster”.
Face exercises against the paralysis
Three days ago, Bieber posted a video of himself showing that half his face is momentarily paralyzed. “As you can see, this eye cannot blink,” he said, closing his left eye while the right remained open. You could also see from his mouth movements that his movements are restricted. He tries to regain mobility with facial exercises. In most patients, symptoms improve within a few months, in some cases damage remains.
Bieber posted the video as an explanation for his canceled concerts. In the comments, some stars wished him a speedy recovery and assured him of their support.
