Actor: The gay womanizer: Neil Patrick Harris turns 49

He came out as gay in the early 2000s. In his prime role as Barney Stinson in the series “How I met your Mother” he was again a great womanizer.

The British science fiction television series “Doctor Who” will celebrate its 60th birthday on November 23, 2023 and, like ten years before, will celebrate this anniversary with a special episode.

Neil Patrick Harris will also be seen alongside the well-known actors David Tannant and Catherine Tate, as the creators of the series wrote on Twitter. Today he is 49 years old.

Started in the film business as a teenager

Neil Patrick Harris grew up in New Mexico in 1973 as the child of two lawyers and enjoyed a sheltered childhood. He was quickly drawn to acting, so he was already active in the school theater. He made his film debut at the age of 15 in the drama “Clara’s Secret”. In the same year he was even seen in his first leading role on the big screen, namely in the science fiction comedy “Purble People Eater”. His breakthrough came thanks to the doctor television series “Doogie Howser, MD”, in which he starred from 1989 to 1993. He received three Young Artist Awards for his performance in the lead role.

Movies, outings and «How I met your mother»

After guest appearances in TV series such as “Roseanne” or “Mord ist ihr Hobby” in the 90s, one or the other film appearance followed, followed in 2000 alongside Madonna with “A Friend to Fall in Love” with the next major engagement. From 2006 he embodied one of the main roles in the popular US sitcom “How I met your Mother”. As the always tailored, suit-wearing womanizer Barney Stinson, he starred in over 200 episodes by 2014 alongside Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Alyson Hannigan and Cobie Smulders.

While he associated with many women in his signature role and sometimes maintained a macho image, he publicly came out as homosexual in private life in 2006. In 2011, Harris wrote on Twitter when same-sex marriage was about to be legalized in the United States. “Dear media: Just because we’re about to get married in New York doesn’t mean that we’re in the process of planning a wedding.” He has been with chef and actor David Burtka since 2004. The two got married in September 2014. Additionally, as of October 2010, they are parents to twins, thanks to a surrogate mother.

presentations and musicals

Throughout his career, Harris has hosted both the Emmy Awards and the Oscars and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in September 2011. In addition to the film business, the all-rounder inspires musicals. In 2008 he dealt with the recognition of same-sex partnerships in the USA in the short musical “Prop 8: The Musical”. In the following years he worked on two more musicals. Harris has also appeared as a passionate magician and author of children’s books.
