The Styrian state party leader Anton Lang, who described the behavior of the delegates as “last class”, was heavily criticized on Monday. For the Burgenland Deputy Governor Astrid Eisenkopf, however, the decision is “to be taken note of”.
Lang was surprised and disappointed by the election result for Rendi-Wagner: “It’s just top notch when everyone applauds your speech and then a prank concert is held in the voting booth. . The behavior reminds him of people who “sit in front of the computer at night and post critical comments under the guise of anonymity”.
Champagne corks at other parties?
It was a mystery to him how it came about, because there was enough room for discussion. Reservations could have been addressed and thus given Rendi-Wagner the chance to respond. In any case, the boss had his support, assured Lang, even if he did not always agree with her.
According to Lang, the result came at a very inconvenient point in time, namely in a phase in which social democracy is on the rise again. He believes that, given the outcome, the other parties have popped the champagne corks.

“No chairman debate”
Eisenkopf currently sees no chairman debate at the SP. The decision was “to be taken note of,” said the Burgenland deputy governor on the sidelines of a press conference on Monday. Rendi-Wagner’s choice was a democratic one, the delegates made this decision. At the moment she has not noticed a debate about the chairmanship in the SP, said the Deputy Governor. That is not currently the point, but rather that the SP is strengthened in the next election dispute.
Whoever leads the party to discuss it is normal practice. Whoever took care of the deletions at the federal party conference could not say to Eisenkopf: “I was not in the voting booth.” Before that, state manager Roland Frst had denied rumors that the Burgenland SP could be behind the deletions.
“Bad advice”
The Lower Austrian provincial party leader Franz Schnabl also rejected assumptions on Sunday that his provincial party could be responsible for the deletions. He regretted the result and attested the party conference’s lack of maturity. Traiskirchens SP mayor Andreas Babler locates the problem in the fact that Rendi-Wagner was “badly advised by a network around them”, as he explained in the free newspaper “Heute”.
Rendi-Wagner wants to stay
Rendi-Wagner herself had already confirmed on Sunday evening in the “ZiB2” that she would remain party leader and also want to go into the next National Council election as a top candidate. You cannot simply ignore the assignment from three quarters of the delegates, said Rendi-Wagner. The full length of the ZiB interview:
