Kurt Biedenkopf: First Helmut Kohl confidante, then rival
As early as the 1970s, Biedenkopf was considered a close confidante of the future Federal Chancellor Helmut Kohl (1930-2017) and was Secretary General of the CDU from 1973 to 1977. He later developed into Kohl’s inner-party rival. After his political career, he worked as a lawyer and was a research professor at the Social Science Research Center in Berlin until 2015.
