The officers noted that Koechner was “OVI” or “operating a vehicle while impaired…under the influence of alcohol/drug abuse”, but refused to take a blood alcohol concentration test. He is scheduled to appear in Lawrence Municipal Court for a hearing on July 8.
Body camera footage of the incident shows one officer telling another that he could “smell alcohol when [él] approached the car [de Koechner]”, and an officer can be heard saying, “Oh God I can smell it from here.” Koechner allegedly told an officer that he was on his way “to Comic-Con in West Virginia” and had only had “one beer” before leaving. This is Koechner’s second run-in with the law in recent months. On New Year’s Eve, he allegedly hit a street sign with his car in Simi Valley, California, and was arrested. “My recent arrest did not occur with any of our children in my custody”, wrote. “I’m in AA and I have a sponsor and I would never do anything that would jeopardize the health and safety of our children,” Koechner revealed in an interview with People.
