Song contest will not take place in Ukraine in 2023 after all

In view of the Russian war of aggression against the country, this is impossible, according to the EBU. The Ukrainian formation Kalush Orchestra won the music competition in mid-May with the song “Stefania”.

“UA-PBC cannot guarantee the security and guarantee that a television station must offer in order to organize and produce the Eurovision Song Contest according to the rules of the ESC,” it said on Twitter about the Ukrainian television station. “The EBU would like to thank UA-PBC for their open-hearted cooperation and commitment in finding scenarios over the past few weeks since Kalush Orchestra’s victory in Turin on May 14,” it said Disappointment that the contest cannot take place in Ukraine next year.”

Is Great Britain coming?

The EBU is currently in talks with the BBC about hosting the 2023 singing contest in the UK. British contestant Sam Ryder took second place with “Space Man.” Should Great Britain actually be awarded the contract, it would be the ninth song contest to be held there.
