Was everything better in the past? At least for Prince Charles, looking back is more refreshing than taking stock of the present. At least that is reflected in the photos he published on the occasion of Father’s Day.
If Father’s Day in Germany coincides with Ascension Day and thus on a Thursday, this day in Great Britain and elsewhere is traditionally celebrated on a Sunday – the third in June. For this reason, numerous celebrities post greetings this Sunday.
The royals also use the occasion to delight their compatriots with photos. Prince William, for example, is beaming in a picture distributed by Kensington Palace with three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. The message: Here is a happy father with his intact family.
Prince Charles looks back
A condition that his father Prince Charles cannot claim for himself: he can show a failed marriage and two quarreling sons. His own father, Prince Philip, passed away last year.
For this reason, the heir to the throne takes a look back at better days. The 73-year-old posted a photo on Twitter and Instagram showing him and his two sons in front of his private Birkhall residence in Scotland. It dates from the 1980s, when the family was still intact, at least on the outside, Prince William and Prince Harry beamed exuberantly at the camera. Wearing a kilt and red knee-high socks, their father appears happy in the presence of his sons.
A photo that also shows how dreary the present looks: The brothers are hopelessly at odds, and Prince Harry is planning to publish a book in which, among other things, he wants to target his father. How beneficial it must be to revel in the good old days.
Prince Charles does the same with a second photo that he published: he can be seen on it with Prince Philip, who died last June. Charles, who is already grown up, looks proudly at the prince consort. Even if the relationship between the two was not always easy: the picture suggests that the Queen’s eldest son is at peace with his father.
This gives hope for the future: the last word has not yet been spoken on Charles’s relationship with his sons.
