Charlène von Monaco: Prince Albert’s wife has an operation in South Africa

Princess Charlène has been in South Africa for months. Health problems have made it impossible for the 43-year-old to return to Monaco so far. Now Prince Albert II’s wife was operated on again.

She actually only wanted to stay twelve days, but now it’s been months: The Monegasque Princess Charlène has been in her native South Africa since March. She had traveled there to support the fight against rhino poaching. Health problems make it impossible for the 43-year-old to fly back to Europe. Charlène had already undergone oral surgery before her trip, and later an infection in the ENT area occurred, as the Prince’s Palace announced. Now Prince Albert’s wife was operated on again.

The procedure took place on Friday under general anesthesia and lasted four hours. The palace did not reveal exactly why Charlène had to be treated. Prince Albert only announced that his wife had survived the operation well. “Princess Charlène is recovering and we think of her with tenderness,” it says in a message. The 63-year-old wants to travel to South Africa with the twins Gabriella and Jacques to help Charlène recover. The Prince and the children had already visited Charlène in June. “It’s a challenging time for me. I miss my husband and children very much,” Charlène told the South African news website in July.

Charlène has to stay in South Africa until the end of October

In an interview with him recently, she revealed that the doctors had forbidden her to fly because she could not compensate for the pressure in her ears. “I cannot force the cure,” said Charlène, promising that she would have to stay in South Africa until the end of October. It is not known whether the renewed intervention will accelerate their return.

Former competitive swimmer Charlène Wittstock has lived in Monaco since 2007. There she met the heir to the throne, Prince Albert II, in a swimming competition in 2000. The couple married on July 1, 2011, and their twins Gabriella and Jaques were born three years later. There have been rumors for a long time that the marriage of Charlène and Albert is going to be in crisis.
