Is the premiere of the Karl May games on Saturday on the brink? Leading actor Alexander Klaws has been infected with Corona.
After a two-year Corona break, the Karl May Festival will return next Saturday (June 25) with this year’s play “Der Ölprinz”. Shortly before the premiere in Bad Segeberg, however, the event team reported bad news: Winnetou actor Alexander Klaws (38) was infected with the corona virus.
“When he missed the big press conference with cold symptoms a few days ago, his test was still negative – but unfortunately the diagnosis of Corona was confirmed over the course of the weekend,” Klaws also spoke up. The actor was “speechless”: “I got through this pandemic for two and a half years without an infection, I’ve been vaccinated twice and boosted – and now, of all times, a week before the premiere, which I’ve been looking forward to for three years, Mr. Klaws is doing it again exciting.”
However, the 38-year-old is not giving up hope of still being able to perform next Saturday: “Keep your fingers crossed that the test will be negative again as soon as possible!”
Replacement for Alexander Klaws found
Klaws is currently being represented at rehearsals by Sascha Hödl, who has already held the role of the Apache chief for five years on the stage in Winzendorf, Austria. In the Karl May games he mimics the oil field owner Jackson and the Nijora warrior Ka Maku and was intended as a “Winnetou backup” anyway.
