It is getting uncomfortable for Prince Andrew: The Queen’s son has to answer in court for the sexual abuse of a minor. Now the plaintiff’s lawyer has reported.
The Highland Games are currently taking place in the Aberdeenshire region in north-east Scotland. The event is under the patronage of Queen Elizabeth II, which is why the royals are regular guests and watch strong Scots throw tree trunks, horseshoes and all sorts of other things far.
This year, Prince Charles is attending the event. But the heir to the throne should not have much joy in the bizarre competitions. Because the royal family is burdened by the impending trial against Prince Andrew, Charles’ younger brother. On Monday, the American Virginia Roberts Giuffre filed a civil lawsuit in New York for the sexual abuse of a minor.
A spicy accusation – which could cast a shadow over the monarchy. For this reason, the Queen has ordered parts of the family to attend a crisis meeting at the holiday home of Schloss Balmoral. In addition to Prince Charles with his wife Camilla, Andrew and ex-wife Fergie and their daughter Eugenie were spotted there.
Prince Andrew is to be put out of action
In the meantime, Giuffres attorney David Boies has spoken out and revealed details about the handover of the application. Since the lawsuit is being heard in New York City, but Prince Andrew lives in the UK, this step is not entirely trivial. In addition, time is of the essence: the first oral hearing is scheduled for September 13th – and the defendant has 21 days to respond to the allegations. For this reason, the court papers are to be handed over “personally” to the prince, according to Boies, who has already represented US Vice President Al Gore and Harvey Weinstein in the past.
So far, Andrew has remained silent on the allegations. But regardless of the outcome of the process, it is already clear that the reputation of the royal family will be damaged. So while Prince Charles is watching sturdy boys push tree trunks away, the Queen could prepare a completely different form of repulsion: In the coming year, the monarch will celebrate her 70th anniversary on the throne. As a high-ranking employee of the palace told the British daily newspaper “Daily Mail”, the Queen’s second eldest son will not play a role in the celebrations next year.
At most, at the Highland Games, Prince Andrew should still be welcome.
