“Blame or collect XL”: Elton reveals details about the new format

Elton presents the quiz “Embarrass or cash in” as a standalone show. In an interview, he reveals details about the concept and the candidates.

Presenter Elton (51) gets his big performance: he presents the new show “Blamieren oder Kassieren XL” every Wednesday at 9:25 p.m. on ProSieben and thus after the new edition of “TV total” (8:15 p.m.) with Sebastian Puffy (45). So far, the quiz format “Blamieren oder Kassieren” had only served as part of Stefan Raab’s (55) “TV total” or the celebrity show “Schlag den Star”. In an interview with the news agency spot on news, Elton reveals what changes in the concept of the format as a result of the new show, what he particularly appreciates about the quiz and why he describes Stefan Raab as the “ultimate quiz boss”.

Why does “Blamieren oder Kassen” deserve its own show?

Elton: Because it’s just overdue! An independent quiz show on German television in which candidates answer questions and they can win money for it – that’s awesome! That no one has figured it out yet. Okay, seriously, of course there are many successful quiz formats, some of which have been around for years. What I like so much about “Shame or Cash In” is as simple as it is ingenious. No complicated set of rules, no jokers, no multiple choice. Just two candidates against each other, you either know what or you don’t. That’s what makes it so exciting for me and I think that’s also the appeal of guessing at home in front of the screen.

Has the concept changed for the new show?

Elton: The two candidates become a few more candidates: three celebrities are playing for a place in the final and three “normal people” are playing for a place in the final. In the final, a celebrity always plays against a “normal”.

Stefan Raab, a “normal” candidate or a star: Who has impressed you the most so far?

Elton: There is no question that Stefan is a star. And I’m not just saying that because I’m contractually obligated to answer that. König Lustig’s general knowledge is truly extraordinary. And what’s impressive about it isn’t that he knows so much, it’s that I have no idea when he even had the time to put it all together. He would definitely be the ultimate quiz boss.

How did the idea of the red suit come about?

Elton: I still remember it like it was yesterday. And it really was quite a few years ago. Color television had just caught on and we wanted to make the most of this new technology, so – red suit. Not black or white. Red! Best decision ever!

What is the biggest challenge for you as a moderator with the format?

Elton: Honestly? Read the questions. The topics are so diverse, varied and up-to-date that I constantly have to learn new names, foreign words and the correct pronunciation. It’s all about money, everything has to be done properly. So I practice reading the questions in special situations days in advance, such as with a cork in my mouth, in zero gravity or while diving with sharks. I don’t want to leave anything to chance.

Would you also dare to sit on one of the guessing chairs? What would be your weak points thematically?

Elton: I would dare to sit on a guessing chair right away. Sitting is my passion, nobody can fool me. However, when it comes to “embarrassing or cashing in”, it is admitted that things are completely different. For me, thematic weak points would actually only be quantum physics and I can never remember the duration of the 30-year war.

“TV total” and several other TV shows have celebrated their comeback. Which show do you want back?

Elton: Isn’t every show back? Otherwise, I would wish for the continuation of “Lindenstraße”, after all, you want to know how it ends.
